Zhang Zhung was an ancient and lost country comprised of Western Tibet and Indian Western Himalaya (that includes Ladakh, Zanskar, Spiti, Kinnaur, Purik-Kargil & Baltistan prior to establishment of imperial Tibetan empire of Srong-Tsan-Gampo (7th century) the first emperor of Tibet. The holy mountain Kailash was the holiest mountain around which this empire prospered.
